Internship in oil palm plantation (part 2)

PART 2

This estate gets visitors often, and therefore we have to always keep estate in tip top condition.

Clients from  Europe (who purchase palm oil from us) came to understand the production of palm oil, A to Z.

Palm oil that are exported to Europe need to have RSPO certification (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil). The production of palm oil must have good practice in terms of sustainability and worker welfare. For instance, zero burning policy, reduction in chemical usage, labour law, etc.

Harvesting of fresh fruit bunches (FFB)

They took a bite from the fruitlet.

Visit to the primary school in the estate.

Briefing in palm oil mill.

Unfortunately, many oil palm estate do not have RSPO certificate, which means there are no regulation in there production practices. For instance, burning down of forest, abuse of toxic chemical, child labour, etc. In Indonesia, this phenomenon is especially prevalent. That is why Malaysia suffer from haze every year due to forest burning from our neighbour country Indonesia.

To be continued...
